Packed Chlorine Ltd is primarily a supplier of liquid and gaseous chlorine. Our product is packed in cylinders or drums and more information can be found on available pack sizes using the links found on this page.
As a halogen Chlorine is a highly efficient disinfectant and is added to public water supplies to kill disease causing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses and protozoan’s, that commonly grow in water supply reservoirs, on the walls of mains water pipes and in water storage tanks.
Chlorine was first used to successfully disinfect drinking water in 1879 and widespread water chlorination followed soon after in the early 1900’s. The adoption of widespread water Chlorination was a huge success leading to the near extinction of many diseases such as Cholera, Typhoid Fever and Dysentery and has saved countless lives since its introduction.
Packed Chlorine operates the only Chlorine filling plant in the UK. Our facility is located in Runcorn, Cheshire where Chlorine is produced by passing an electric current through a solution of brine (common salt dissolved in water). The Chlorine gas that is produced is then cooled, dried and compressed before being sent to storage and subsequently filled into cylinders and drums.
Due to the essential nature of our product we understand that our supply chain must be very resilient and as such significant quantities of filled cylinders and drums are kept on site ready for immediate call off. As required these cylinders and drums are then transported to our customer’s location by dedicated delivery vehicles and specially trained drivers.
The Chlorine supplied by Packed Chlorine Ltd complies with BS EN 937:2009 and BS 3947:1976 and is manufactured in accordance with CEN CR 14269 and EuroChlor Recommendation GEST 76/55.
